The PluxNet Youth Empowerment Summit, held on 28 June at Holy Cross Anglican Church in Orlando West, Johannesburg, brought together young people, industry leaders, and community stakeholders in a powerful conclusion to Youth Month.
The summit honoured the legacy of 16 June and the 1976 Soweto Uprising, underscoring how the bravery of that generation continues to inspire today’s youth in their pursuit of education, opportunity, and equality.

Zenzo Nkomo, CEO of Lepharo Incubation, emphasised the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship as vital avenues for young people to uplift their communities. He encouraged youth to harness their creativity and devise solutions that respond to local challenges while establishing sustainable businesses.

As host of the summit, PluxNet Fibre reaffirmed its dedication to closing the digital divide by extending high-speed fibre internet access to more communities, including affluent areas such as Bryanston. The company also encouraged young people to pursue opportunities in digital technology, content creation, and entrepreneurship, noting that youth-led enterprises are key to driving inclusive economic growth.

The summit featured engaging panel discussions, networking sessions, and reflective conversations on leadership and community development. Young participants shared their aspirations and gained insight from experienced mentors, strengthening their resolve to confront unemployment, inequality, and social challenges through innovation and collaboration.
Ultimately, the event served as a rallying call for youth to step forward as architects of a new digital era—one founded on education, entrepreneurship, and unity.
