English Premiership aspect Worcester have been suspended from all competitions by the Rugby Football Union on Monday after failing to fulfill a funding ultimatum.

“We met with players and staff last week to explain why this action would be necessary and regrettably without assurances in place we have had to take this action to protect everyone’s best interests.”

Sweeney stated he hoped a purchaser could possibly be secured to permit the membership to return to skilled rugby, saying that the RFU would search to study from the state of affairs to handle broader monetary issues in English membership rugby.

“While it is the responsibility of each business owner to manage their individual finances, we will look at learnings from this situation to see what regulation can be put in place to provide all parties with more financial transparency,”

he stated.

Sweeney stated the RFU would work with Premiership Rugby and the federal government to determine the following steps for the membership.

Premiership Rugby issued a press release confirming Saturday’s league match between Gloucester and Worcester was off.

Simon Massie-Taylor, chief govt of Premiership Rugby stated: “I do know this can proceed to be a distressing time for the gamers, employees and supporters on the membership and we are going to proceed to help them the place we are able to throughout this subsequent section.

“This decision affects other clubs in the league too and we are sorry for the disruption it has caused Gloucester Rugby and its supporters whose home fixture will no longer take place this weekend. We will be continuing to review the situation daily with the club and RFU.”
