Media Statement KIMBERLEY – The Calvinia Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit secured the life imprisonment sentence handed down by the Williston Regional Court to 52- year-old Arrie van Wyk following the rape of a 17-year-old girl in Williston on Tuesday 27 June 2023. The Court heard that the victim was walking home from a friend’s house when the accused, who is her uncle invited her into his house, where he raped her and threatened her with a knife. The Court found the accused guilty and sentenced him to 28 years imprisonment for rape of which 6 years was suspended for a period of 5 years and instructed that his name be recorded in the National Register for Sex Offenders and declared him unfit to possess a firearm. Investigating officer Detective Constable Anthony Willemse from the Calvinia Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) conducted the investigative work, ensuring that justice is served for child victims during and after Child Protection Month.
