WESTERN CAPE – The confiscation of drugs in communities across the Cape Metropole yielded success when members of Operation Shanela searched a premises in Heinz Park on Wednesday, 01 May 2024. The members were busy with crime prevention duties in the area to combat gang related shooting and robberies when they received information about illicit drug activities at a premises in Coronation Street. They operationalized the information and ensued with a search of the premises. They found 95 packets containing crystal meth and a undisclosed amount of cash in the house and arrested an adult male for possession of drugs. In an unrelated matter members of Operation Shanela deployed in Gugulethu policing precinct due to the ongoing shooting in the area searched a premises in NY10 and arrested a 33-year-old man for dealing in dagga. The members were busy with stop and search operations when they searched the male and found 400 grams dagga and an undisclosed amount of cash in his possession. The suspects will make their respective court appearances in the Athlone Magistrates’ court on the mentioned charges. Furthermore, members attached to the Anti-Gang Unit arrested an adult male for the illegal possession of firearms in Bosuns, Strandfontein on Wednesday evening. The members searched the identified premises and confiscated a 9mm pistol and a .45 calibre pistol that were buried in the ground. The suspect will appear in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrates’ court once he has been charged.
