Media Statement CAPE TOWN – A 20-year-old suspect is scheduled to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court once charged for the possession of a motor vehicle, a VW Polo which was hijacked in Harare in March 2025. On Wednesday, 09 April 2025 at about 14:30, members attached to Makhaza police initiated a search in Ekophumleni in Khayelitsha in response of information received of a hijacking syndicate which operates in the area. The information led the members to a premises in Lindelwa Street where they recovered a hijacked VW Polo that was taken in Harare area on 27 March 2025. Upon further investigation it was determined that the vehicle was used in multiple hijackings during which false registration numbers were used. During a search of the vehicle the members also found falsified number plates in the trunk of the vehicle. The suspect was arrested for the possession of a hijacked motor vehicle. He is expected to appear at Khayelitsha Magistrates’ court once charged. Ends
