Media Statement GAUTENG – Ekurhuleni District Commissioner, Major General Anna Sithole, continue to commend SAPS members and other law enforcement agencies in their battle against Crime. This comes after more than 225 suspects were nabbed for various offenses and 5 illegal shebeens closed during the safer festive season Operations Shanela conducted on Friday, 17 January 2025 to Sunday morning, 19 January 2025 across Ekurhuleni Policing Precincts . During those Operations. 5 illegal shebeens were closed in Vosloorus area. Amongst the suspects nabbed, 131 were arrested by the Detectives while tracing the suspects across Ekurhuleni District on Saturday, wherein 63 were arrested for contact Crimes, 12 for contact related crimes, 13 for property crime, 32 for other serious crime and 15 for Gender based Violence . In Tembisa on Friday, members of Crime Intelligence received information regarding the suspect dealing with drugs, mainly Crystal meth and double star. The information was liaised with members of Saps Tembisa Crime intelligence and Gauteng Traffic wardens. The information was operationalized and the suspect was found in possession of 34 crystal meth and 10 double star drugs. A 21-year-old suspect was then arrested for possession of drugs In Germiston, on Friday, 17 January 2025 at 10:00 am, members of SAPS Germiston were executing duties at Corner Van Tonder informal settlement and spotted 2 African males who started to run away. The Police gave chase and caught them. Upon searching them, they found a 38 special revolver with 5 rounds of ammunition and drugs in their possessions.
Ekurhuleni District Commissioner, Major General Anna Sithole thanked the members of the public for the accurate information they provide to the Police which always results in commendable success as well as the law enforcers for effecting the arrests.
