Media Statement EKURHULENI DISTRICT – A total of 336 Suspects were arrested for various offenses from Friday 20 December 2024 to Sunday 21 December 2024 morning by members of law enforcement and other stakeholders during their Festive Season operations conducted across Ekurhuleni Policing Precincts with a total of 15 illegal shebeens shutdown. Amongst others, 169 were nabbed by the Detectives during their suspects raiding operations, which include (113) for contact Crimes, (36) for other serious Crimes, (24) for Gender-based Violence and seven for property Crime. 167 Suspects were nabbed by SAPS members and other law enforcement agencies during their weekend operations conducted across Ekurhuleni Policing Precincts. The main operation was conducted in Ivory Park area on Saturday 21 December 2024, led by the Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, where 21 illegal immigrants were nabbed, a stolen motor vehicle reported at Roodepoort was recovered, seven suspects for possession of drugs, one for Possession of dagga, five for selling liquor without licence, 13 suspects for driving vehicles whilst under the influence of alcohol, 14 for public drinking and 6 for drunk in public. Still in Ekurhuleni, in Brakpan on Saturday 21 December 2024, members of Ekurhuleni Trio Task team were patrolling along hospital road at about 12:40, when they receive information about the Blue- purple Toyota Quantum, pulling trailer with suspected stolen tyres. They proceeded to the address where the said motor vehicle was spotted with three suspects inside. When the Police questioned the suspects about the origin of the tyres, they claimed to have bought it in Mpumalanga however, the suspects failed to produce the invoice. Preliminary investigations were made and revealed that the tyres were taken during a business robbery in Middelburg as per December case of 2024. The three suspects were arrested on the spot and taken to Brakpan for detention. Ekurhuleni District Commissioner Major General Anna Sithole thanked all the law enforcers who took part in both the operations, their swift responses in effecting arrests as well as concerned Community members who don’t lose hope by working closely to the Police to ensure that criminals don’t get space to breathe in the District.
