JOHANNESBURG — The family of Olorato Mongale says they are beginning to find some comfort in how the investigation into her tragic death is being handled.
Speaking with reporters, Olorato’s aunt shared how the family is drawing strength from the police’s efforts as they prepare to lay the young woman to rest. “It doesn’t bring her back,” she said quietly, “but knowing there’s progress gives us some peace.”
On Friday, one of the key suspects in her murder was killed during a confrontation with police. Officers say they tracked him down to a residential complex in Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal. When they announced themselves, he allegedly opened fire and was shot dead during the exchange.
There is still one suspect at large.
Olorato’s body was discovered on Monday, just a day after she had gone out on what was supposed to be a date — a meeting that turned into a nightmare.
In a disturbing twist, several women have since come forward, claiming links between the suspects and a larger criminal ring that targets and abducts women.
While the pain of losing Olorato remains heavy, her family says they are holding onto hope that justice will be served — not just for her, but for others who may have been victims too.
