Media Statement POTCHEFSTROOM – Orkney Police arrested a 40-year-old man on Friday morning, 14 June 2024, after being found in possession of suspected stolen copper cables. It is alleged the man was driving from Leeudoringstad to Orkney when he was stopped at a roadblock for a search. During the search, the police found copper cables in the boot of the car and the man was arrested after failing to account for the possession. He is expected to appear before the Orkney Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 18 June 2024, for possession of copper cables and tampering and with essential infrastructure.
The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, hailed the members for their attentiveness that resulted in the arrest. He further stated that law enforcement agencies will continue to execute various actions to prevent and combat crime.
