Media Statement NORTHERN CAPE – A domestic violence incident ended tragically after a young boy reported the fatal assault of his stepmother on Christmas Day in 2023. The Vanwyksvlei SAPS attended a crime scene at a farm on Monday, 25 December 2023 at about 13:15, after a community member reported that a boy came to their farm and reported to them that his father had a fight with his stepmother and she was unresponsive. On arrival, 35-year-old Shamers Jonkers informed the police that he assaulted his girlfriend, and he was subsequently arrested. The Carnarvon Regional Court, on Wednesday, 13 November 2024, convicted and sentenced the accused to 15 years’ imprisonment. Pixley Ka Seme District Commissioner, Major General Nomana Mtukushe and her management are delighted for the prison sentence handed down to the accused and commended Detective Warrant Officer Mervin Sekoor for securing the conviction and bringing justice to the family of the deceased.
