AMATHOLE DISTRICT – Members attached to Msobomvu Crime Prevention Unit arrested five suspects aged between 19 and 29 last night 21 June 2024 at about 22:30. Police didn’t waste any time after valuable information was shared to them of a shack that is selling drugs at Smuts Squatter Camp outside Butterworth. They proceeded to the area and information led to the arrest of five suspects including a female for possession of two (2) unlicensed firearms and ammunition, dealing and possession of drugs and possession of suspected stolen property. In a separate incident the intelligence driven operation was conducted in conjunction with Butterworth Detectives in solving a case of burglary business at Mtintsilana Administrative Area in Butterworth yesterday at about 14h00. Detectives were busy following leads that can solve a case of burglary business that occurred during the month of May and June 2024 at Mtintsilana Location outside Butterworth. Police nabbed three suspects aged between 23 and 34 years and were charged for possession of suspected stolen property and burglary in business place. Police recovered the stolen property. These suspects will appear at Butterworth Magistrate Court on Monday 24 June 2024. The District Commissioner Major General Ngangema Xakavu is thanking the community for sharing information in order to get firearms and drugs off the streets, and further appreciate the members for their commitment in the fight against crime.
