Vala Umgodi team pounces on 20 suspects in Boitekong

POTCHEFSTROOM – The Vala Umgodi team arrested 20 more suspects after operationalising information regarding illegal mining activities at Boitekong and in Sun City on Thursday, 27 March 2025. 

The suspects, all males between the ages of 62 and 22, were arrested for contravention of Section 49(1)(a) of the Immigration Act, 2002 (Act No. 13 of 2002) and are expected to appear before the Rustenburg and Mogwase Magistrates’ Courts on Monday, 31 March 2025.

Police seized a generator, battery and a grease pump in Sun City.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of North West, Major General Patrick Asaneng welcomed the arrest and seizure of the items used during illegal mining activities.
