POLOKWANE – The members of Operation Vala Umgodi arrested four suspects aged between 26 and 53 for illegal mining of sand at Nebo and Apel Policing areas in Sekhukhune District on Wednesday, 02 April 2025. Reportedly, the members were patrolling the identified illegal mining sites at the respective areas. In Nebo, three suspects were noticed busy loading sand in a red truck. They approached the suspects, and none of them produced a permit to mine in the area. The suspects aged between 26 and 36 were immediately arrested for illegal mining of sand. Meanwhile, at Mohlatsi in Apel, a 53-year-old man was also arrested for illegal mining of sand (contravention of sec 24F (1) (a) of NEMA act 107 of 1998). The suspect was found busy mining sand illegally by operating a yellow TLB plus truck. During both incidents, the Police confiscated shovel, pickaxe and TLB truck. The suspects will soon appear before the local Magistrate’s Court. Ends
