A 28 year old pastor from Vanderbijlpark in the Vaal has been arrested in connection with allegations of sexual abuse involving a 19 year old matric learner.
The matter came to light on 27 March 2026 after the learner disclosed the alleged abuse to her mother and a family friend. The case was reported to police and referred to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
According to the complainant’s mother, Simangele Ndlela, she only became aware of the allegations after her daughter revealed that she had allegedly been subjected to abuse over a period of time.
It is alleged that some of the incidents took place at church premises where the complainant and her mother had been residing. The family was later asked to leave the property following a dispute related to the allegations.
The complainant further alleged that the accused attempted to conceal the situation from members of the church and those close to him.
Police investigations reportedly included the collection of forensic evidence. Authorities have not disclosed full details as the matter is now before the court.
Ndlela said she is seeking justice for her daughter and wants the law to take its course.
She added that she had not previously realised the extent of her daughter’s situation and only noticed changes in her behaviour and school performance over time.
A separate account from another community member alleged past inappropriate conduct by the same individual involving other young people. These allegations have not been tested in court.
The suspect was arrested on 29 March 2026 in front of his congregation.
He appeared before the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court, where he was denied bail.
He is expected to appear in court again on 9 April 2026.
Authorities have reiterated that the accused remains innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
