Media Statement UPINGTON – The SAPS in the Northern Cape welcomed a sentence that was handed down to Frans November (22) for the rape of his 31-year-old girlfriend. The victim was at home on 29 July 2022 when the accused arrived and allegedly started to assault her. He dragged her into the room where he undressed and raped her, accusing her of sleeping with other men. The victim sustained serious injuries, which she reported to the police in Upington. A docket of Assault GBH and Rape was registered and the accused was detained. The Regional Court of Upington sentenced Frans to 10 years’ imprisonment on each of the two counts of Rape and 12 months for Assault GBH. The Management in the Northern Cape lauded the excellent investigation by Detective Constable Monica Larekwang of Upington Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences. The SAPS will continuously fight the scourge of GBVF in the community and make every effort to create a safe environment for women and children. Ends
