Media Statement NELSPRUIT – The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, has commended members for the breakthrough following a horrific incident in which a victim’s hands were hacked off by his assailants last week. Police arrested three suspects, aged between 20 and 55 at Vosman on Wednesday night, 27 March 2024. The three arrested suspects face charges of attempted murder involving a 30-year-old man. The achievement comes as a result of vigorous investigation by the team, resulting in the arrest of three suspects who are believed to be from the same family. After the incident occurred on 20 March 2024, Mpumalanga Tracking Team, Vosman Detectives, Tactical Response Team (TRT), Vosman Crime Prevention Unit, Middelburg Flying Squad, Criminal Record Centre (CRC), Investigative Psychology Unit (IPS) and Tracker Company have been hard at work and they collaborated their efforts in sought of suspects. Details on the whereabouts of suspects were received. The information was then operationalized, which led the team to a certain premises in Vosman near Witbank. On Wednesday night, 27 March 2024 it was proven that indeed hard work pays off as the team tactfully managed to corner the three suspects. The male victim was apparently attacked and both his hands hacked off by suspects last week. The victim is still recovering in hospital. After the scene was revisited by the Police on Monday, 25 March 2024, his hands were recovered. The three suspects are expected to appear at the Emalahleni Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 02 April 2024, facing the said charges of attempted murder. The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela further urged members of the public to remain calm and allow the justice system to deal with this matter. “Well done to the team for the arrest of the three suspects after spending sleepless nights for days.
