UNIVEN ALUMNUS MATOME MOHOLOLA APPOINTED ATNS CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
THOHOYANDOU: University of Venda (UNIVEN) alumnus Matome Moholola has been appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) SOC Limited for a five-year fixed term.
The appointment marks a significant milestone for the Limpopo-based institution, which has congratulated its former student on reaching one of the country’s key leadership positions in the aviation sector.
Moholola holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from UNIVEN, alongside advanced qualifications from the University of the Witwatersrand, the University of Pretoria and Georgetown University in the United States.
His academic achievements include a Bachelor of Accountancy, a Master of Commerce in Taxation and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). He is also a Chartered Accountant of South Africa (CA(SA)).
According to ATNS, Moholola has served as acting CEO since March 2025, giving him more than a year of experience leading the organisation before his permanent appointment.
He joined ATNS in July 2011 as Senior Finance Manager, a position he held for six years before being promoted to Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in October 2017.
Before joining ATNS, Moholola served as a director at National Treasury. His earlier career included positions as Chief Accountant at Johnson Diversey and Head Office Accountant at Maxiprest Tyres.
His professional expertise spans financial management, risk management, supply chain management and corporate governance, providing him with experience across government and the private sector.
ATNS is responsible for providing air traffic management and navigation services that support the safety and efficiency of aircraft operations in South Africa’s airspace.
Moholola’s appointment comes at an important time for the organisation as it seeks to strengthen leadership stability, restore stakeholder confidence and advance its operational priorities.
ATNS board chairperson Zola Majavu said the appointment would support leadership continuity and strengthen partnerships across the aviation sector.
Majavu expressed confidence in Moholola’s ability to lead the organisation through a period of stabilisation and renewal, highlighting his commitment, resilience and understanding of the challenges facing ATNS.
The board also expects the appointment to enable the organisation to stabilise its executive management team and fill key leadership positions that have been occupied in an acting capacity.
UNIVEN’s congratulatory message highlighted Moholola’s achievement as an example of the calibre of graduates produced by the institution and their contribution to leadership across different sectors.
His journey from studying accounting at UNIVEN to leading a national aviation services organisation underscores the role of higher education and professional development in preparing graduates for senior leadership responsibilities.
Moholola will formally assume the five-year CEO term on 1 November 2026.
