UPINGTON – The management of the South African Police Service in the Northern Cape has welcomed the sentences that were handed down to two women for the murders of their boyfriends in two seperate incidents by the Keimoes Regional Court recently, following the meticulous investigations by the investigating officers, namely Sergeant Piet Eiman and Constable Eshley Jonkers, both attached to the Keimoes Detectives. 29-year-old Nadia Schwartz from Currieskamp was convicted for the murder of Floors Nell (28). On 30 December 2023, the Keimoes police attended to a murder scene where the deceased was stabbed in the chest, following an altercation with his girlfriend over alcohol and money. The accused fatally stabbed the deceased who succumbed due to the injuries he sustained. Schwartz’s was arrested on the scene and was released on bail until her sentencing on 08 August 2024 to 12 years imprisonment, of which two years is suspended for five years. In another murder case, the same court sentenced 21-year-old Annolize Beukes to 10 years imprisonment for the murder of her boyfriend Danwil Swartz (29). During court proceedings it came to light that on 23 October 2022, the couple had an argument during which Annolize stabbed her boyfriend to death. She was arrested and brought before court, where she pleaded guilty on a charge of murder. These sentences are a clear indication that detectives in the province remain focused and intentional in ensuring that perpetrators of gender based violence and femicide are brought to justice. Ends
