POLOKWANE – A joint operation involving the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit and the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has resulted in the arrest and the subsequent court appearance of two male suspects linked to a business robbery that occurred in Moletjie Mashobohleng, Ga-Mantsho village under Seshego policing area.

The arrests stem from an incident that took place on 13 June 2026 where three armed male suspects allegedly entered a shop, held staff hostage and robbed them of undisclosed amount of cash.

During the commission of the robbery, one of the suspects was reportedly shot and collapsed at the scene. The remaining alleged suspects fled in an orange Volkswagen Polo motor vehicle with Gauteng registration number plates travelling in the direction of Polokwane along the R521 public road.

Following the incident, the motor vehicle was subsequently circulated to law enforcement agencies.

As a result of ongoing investigations, members of the JMPD intercepted the sought motor vehicle in Gauteng province on Friday 11 September 2026.

Following the breakthrough, members of the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit travelled to Tembisa location and a joint tracing operation was conducted with JMPD members.

The operation led to the arrest of Koos Madimabe Machabaphala (29) from Moletjie, Mahwibitsane village who had recently relocated to Tembisa together with Kgwadikgolo Success Mogano aged 28 from Ga-Molepo village under Mankweng precinct.

Police further recovered the vehicle allegedly used during the commission of the offence as well as a firearm believed to be linked to the crime.

The suspects appeared before the Seshego Magistrate court on Monday 14 September 2026 facing charges of robbery and attempted murder.

The duo were remanded in police custody and the matter was postponed to Thursday 17 September 2026 for bail application and further police investigations.

Police investigations are continuing.
