POLOKWANE – The swift response by the Mashashane police under the Capricorn District led to the arrest of two male suspects, aged 25 and 29, following an attempted robbery at a filling station in Mashashane during the early hours of Saturday, 22 March 2025, at approximately 02:30. The police were called to the scene and upon arrival, were informed that two unknown suspects, one armed with a firearm and driving a sedan motor vehicle , had accosted a petrol attendant and forced him inside, demanding cash from the register at gunpoint. The duo, however, failed to take any money and fled the scene before completing the robbery. An extensive search was immediately launched, leading to the successful tracing and arrest of the suspects in a nearby village. During the arrest, the police recovered an unlicensed firearm with an empty magazine and the vehicle used during commission of the crime. The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the members involved for their swift and co-ordinated response, which led to the quick apprehension of the suspects and the removal of an illegal firearm from the streets.
The suspects are expected to appear before Seshego Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 24 March 2025 facing charges of business robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
