Media Statement POLOKWANE – The Police in Tzaneen swiftly arrested a 23-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl in connection with a robbery that took place in Tzaneen on Saturday, 20 April 2024 at about 17:45. The arrest emanates after the two women, hitchhiked and accepted a lift from a white Toyota Avanza with four occupants, three men and a teenage girl, along the R71. Along the way, the vehicle turned towards the direction of Bolobedu, and the suspects pointed the victims with firearms demanding cash. They then robbed the two women off their belongings, including cellphones, cash and jewellery. The suspects drove off and left the victims stranded next to the road. They were ultimately assisted by a passer-by who immediately notified police. Upon arrival of the police, they commenced with initial investigations, which led to the swift arrest of two of the suspects within the vicinity. During the arrest, one robbed cellphone and nine other cellphones suspected to have been robbed as well were confiscated. The two suspects are expected to appear before Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 23 April 2024, on charges of robbery with a firearm and possession of suspected stolen properties. The manhunt for the remaining suspects is underway.
