Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – Continued efforts in the fight against gang violence and related crimes in the Western Cape yielded positive results in the Elsies River policing precinct on Tuesday evening. Members of the Elsies River Crime Prevention Unit were busy with crime prevention operations in the Avonwood area when they stopped and searched a unknown man. They found a 9mm pistol with nine rounds of ammunition in his possession of which he could not provide a license or permit. The 23 year old man was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. In an unrelated intervention members of the Anti-Gang Unit stopped and searched a man in 14th Avenue, Leonsdale, during crime prevention operations and found a 9mm pistol with 14 rounds of ammunition in his possession. The 28 year old suspect face charges for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
They will appear in the Goodwood Magistrates’ court on Friday, 03 January 2025 on the mentioned charges respectively.
