Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – Determined to protect their communities from criminal elements, dedicated police officers responded to complaints and arrested two suspects in isolated incidents on Thursday, 06 June 2024. Milnerton police were busy with patrols on Thursday, 06 June 2024, when they responded to a complaint of house robbery. Upon their arrival at the scene in Thutusela Street at around 21:45, the witnesses provided a clear description of the motor vehicle, which sped away from the scene. The police members searched the area and saw the vehicle parked in Rose Street. When the suspects noticed the patrol vehicle approaching them, they fled in different directions with the police members in pursuit. The members accosted one of the suspects, after which they searched the motor vehicle. They discovered and confiscated two 9mm firearms with ammunition, an imitation firearm, and electronic equipment. They detained the adult male on a charge of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition as well as possession of presumed stolen property. In an unrelated intervention police attached to Operation Shanela deployed in Browns Farm were busy with patrols in the identified crime hotspots near to Gavan Mbeki Drive at around 20:00 when a suspicious Toyota Tazz drove past them. The police members followed the vehicle as the driver of the motor vehicle sped off. A high-speed chase ensued. They forced the driver to stop the motor vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the motor vehicle was reported stolen in Mfuleni. This resulted in the detention of the adult male on a charge of theft of a motor vehicle. Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Cape Town and Blue Downs Magistrates’ courts on the mentioned charges.
