Media Statement NELSPRUIT – Two suspects, aged 23 and 30, were arrested on Sunday, 26 January 2025 after being found in possession of dagga worth an estimated street value of about R1.2 million on the R538 Road near Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA). According to a report, members of the Police from White River Flying Squad Unit were conducting routine patrols when they spotted a white Toyota Quantum with two occupants. The vehicle was stopped by the members, and they conducted a search. It was during this time when they discovered 50 compressed bags of dagga. The dagga weighed approximately 1,020 kg’s. Both suspects were charged with dealing in dagga. One of the suspects, from the Kingdom of Eswatini is faced with an additional charge of contravention of Immigration Act of South after being found without valid documentation to be in the country. The Police Investigators are working in collaboration with officials from the Department of Home Affairs and The suspects are expected to appear at the White River Magistrate’s Court soon. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr.) Zeph Mkhwanazi, commended the officers for their vigilance and hardwork which led to the big bust. “By now, suspects should know that there is no room that will be left out for perpetrators to commit crime unabated. Our members will continue working tirelessly to ensure our roads are safe and free from criminal activities, ” the General.
