QUMBU – Search and seizure operation conducted by the Tactical Response Team based in OR Tambo District led to the arrest of two male suspects aged 44 and 56-years-old, both of Ncemeni locality, Lower Tyirha A/A, each found with an AK47 rifle with ammunition on Thursday, 17 April 2025 from 14:00 till 15:30. On information received, police spotted the 56-year-old suspect in his vehicle and on searching recovered an AK47 rifle with thirty (30) rounds of live ammunition whilst the second 44-year-old male suspect was found at his homestead with an AK47 rifle having thirty one (31) live rounds of ammunition being recovered. Both firearms have erased serial numbers. The two arrested suspects will appear before Qumbu Magistrate Court on Tuesday, 22 April 2025, each facing a charge of unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.
OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana applauded police for working so hard in making the district a safe place. “We will work around the clock as police to make sure that we get rid of unlicensed firearms which ultimately put communities’ lives in misery by being victims of serious and violent crimes committed with the use of those unlicensed firearms,” said Major General Modishana whilst commending his foot soldiers.
