The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) remains committed to rooting out the trade of illicit and stolen goods within our communities. On Wednesday, 13 May 2026, JMPD officers from the Tactical Response Unit (TRU) successfully apprehended two suspects and recovered a significant haul of suspected stolen electronic goods during a targeted operation.
Following an intelligence-led investigation into the possession of suspected stolen property, officers tracked a female suspect to the Flora Shopping Centre. The suspect was intercepted while allegedly attempting to secure a buyer for several items.
The investigation led officers to a workplace located in Northcliff, where a male suspect was arrested. Upon his arrest, several suspected stolen items, including cellular phones, were recovered.

Further interrogation revealed that additional illicit goods were being stored at a residential address. Members proceeded to Witpoortjie, Roodepoort, where they successfully recovered laptops, smart televisions, and multiple cellular phones.
While several items were recovered, it was established that a portion of the stolen inventory had been sold at various locations prior to the arrival of the police.

Both individuals were formally charged with possession of suspected stolen property.
The JMPD will continue to work tirelessly with our partners at the South African Police Service (SAPS) to ensure that those who profit from the theft of citizens’ property are brought to justice.
