AMBITION TO CHALLENGE MAMELODI SUNDOWNS
This is what we love to hear. AmaZulu FC are inspired to grab Mamelodi Sundowns‘ crown as the supremos of South African football. Chairman, Sandile Zungu, recently revealed that Usuthu have been performing below the club’s great potential.
“Mamelodi Sundowns is a great team but we can reasonably aim to dethrone them just like all other ambitious teams must aim to dethrone them,” Zungu said via FARPost.
“They’ve done exceptionally well and we’re very proud of their accomplishments. But we need to dethrone them, someone has got to move them from the pinnacle that they’ve occupied for so long.
“And we believe AmaZulu must raise its hand to say we want to be counted. The question is, do we have requisite material to achieve that? We believe we’ve got a requisite material within the resources limitations that we have and that many teams have in this country.
“We believe we have the requisite material to compete and we will compete,” the Usuthu chairman concluded.
RULANI MOKWENA TO SIGN BONGANI ZUNGU
Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Bongani Zungu looks set to reunite with Rulani Mokwena in Morocco.
Coaches don’t always talk so openly about transfers, but Mokwena sounds truly eager to sign Zungu at his new club Wydad Casablanca. “I can only talk about Zungu, with Zungu we are talking, he has got interest from elsewhere but Zungu is very special, ” the new Wydad coach said on Marawa Sports Worldwide, as cited by iDiski Times.
““I have known Bongani Zungu for a very long time and he is a very, very good player and he still got a lot to offer and he is a good person too.
“That’s very important for me in working to align and I said that even yesterday to the players – the most important thing for me is to work with good people and that’s very, very important.
“And Bongs (Zungu) is a very good person, good heart, well raised. Incredible family, incredible mother, incredible siblings.
“So, he is someone I have a lot of respect for and someone I would love to have here but let’s see whether it’s possible because sometimes it’s got a lot more to do with many other things than just football.
“So, we are still talking and hopefully something comes up,” the former Sundowns coach concluded.
MAMELODI SUNDOWNS SIGN KEGAN JOHANNES
You don’t easily find 23-year-old players with 72 senior matches. Mamelodi Sundowns’ new signing Kegan Johannes is that individual. How did make the decision to join Kabo Yellow?
Johannes, a versatile defender that can play as right-back or central defender, started his senior career at Cape Town Spurs when he was just 17. The Bishop Lavis-born star later moved to SuperSport United before finally moving to African giants Sundowns this week.
“Mamelodi Sundowns are delighted to announce that defender Kegan Johannes has joined The Brazilians on a long-term contract,” the champions confirmed.
“Johannes, who has previously captained the South African u23 National Team, has established himself in the domestic league, racking up a number of impressive appearances in the Premier Soccer League and domestic cup competitions. The versatile defender will now to get ready for the upcoming season with Masandawana,” the report added.
