Media Statement POTCHEFSTROOM – A 41-year-old suspect was arrested and three suspected stolen vehicles confiscated during a multidisciplinary operation conducted in Jouberton Township outside Klerksdorp on Friday, 02 August 2024. The team that comprised of Provincial and Klerksdorp Crime Intelligence, Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU), SA Tracker Connect, Jouberton Visible Policing, Insurance Crime Bureau (ICB) and Cap Security collaborated to recover stolen three Toyota Etios vehicles. Preliminary investigations established that the cars were stolen in Alberton and Hartbeespoortdam between March 2021 and October 2023. The suspect is expected to appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 05 August 2024, for possession of suspected stolen goods. In a separate arrest in Brits on Thursday afternoon, 01 August 2024, a crime intelligence driven operation by the local Operational Coordination Centre (OCC), led to the arrest of five Mozambican foreign nationals for possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles. The suspects were apprehended after members received and operationalised information about suspected stolen motor vehicle. On arrival at the identified address, the police found the suspects stripping parts from the red Mazda CX5. The car was circulated together with a Mahindra and a motor bike, which were also found at the place, and they all tested positive. The Mazda was linked with car hijacking case reported in Mmakau last month. The suspects; four males and a female, are expected to appear in the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 05 August 2024, for possession of suspected stolen goods.
The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena lauded everyone involved in both operations for the successes.
