Media Statement ZWELITSHA – In a lengthy investigation by members attached to Anti-Corruption Unit, they arrested a 58-year-old former Warrant Officer on Tuesday 10 December 2024 at Grahamstown. According to the investigation, it is alleged that the former police officer stole drugs to an estimated amount of R204 000.00 that were found abandoned at the Grahamstown area. It is indicated that these drugs were booked in the Grahamstown SAPS register for disposal and were stolen before they were disposed of. The suspect was arrested and warned to appear at Grahamstown Magistrate Court on 14 January 2025. In an unrelated incident, the police Sergeant is among the ten suspects that were arrested for Fraud at Sterkspruit yesterday 11 December 2024. The members attached to Anti-Corruption Unit and Aliwal North Public Order Police (POP) embarked in an operation and arrested a Sergeant who is allegedly involved in a fraud case that occurred in one of the filling stations at Sterkspruit. It is alleged that he will get cash back after using the SAPS Fleet petrol card from the filling stations. It is further alleged that he was working with cashiers and petrol attendants who were also arrested during the operation. These suspects are appearing at Sterkspruit Magistrate Court today 12 December 2024 on a charge of fraud. Ends
