OR TAMBO DISTRICT – Swift police reaction led to the arrest of two suspects for possession of unlicensed firearm in two separate incidents at the OR Tambo District yesterday. On Wednesday, 28 August 2024 around 07:00, it is alleged that a man armed with a firearm accosted a child (17), in uniform, who was on his way to school. It is further said that the victim was held at gunpoint and robbed of his cellphone. Police were summoned, and the suspect was apprehended at the house not far away from the scene. Police recovered the stolen cellphone and also seized an unlicensed firearm (serial number filed off.) The suspect (30) was nabbed and charged for robbery with aggravating circumstances with an additional charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm. He will appear in the Tsolo magistrate’s court on Friday, 30 August 2024 on the said charges. In a separate incident, on the same day, a 19- year-old teenager (male) was nabbed for possession of unlicensed firearm in Lusikisiki, following an intelligence information. The teenager was arrested at Gabelana locality in Lusikisiki, and is due to appear in Lusikisiki Magistrate’s Court on 30 August 2024. Both firearms will be sent for ballistic testing. Ends
