WESTERN CAPE – The persistence of police members to eradicate the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition yielded success when two males were arrested in isolated incidents Gugulethu police members were busy with patrols on Friday 16 May 2024 when they noticed a suspicious male near to Ndiki Street in New Cross Roads at around 22:36. It was evident that the man was hiding an object behind his back. The members confronted the man, searched him and recovered a pistol with ammunition in his possession. They arrested the adult male as he was not in possession of a valid license to possess the mentioned pistol. Meanwhile Mitchells Plain police followed up on information of a firearm at an address in Westridge on Saturday 18 May 2024. The members approached the address in Rozendal Road at around 16:05 and searched the entire premises and the occupants. Their persistence were rewarded when they confiscated a .38 Special revolver with ammunition hidden underneath a bed in the shack. They detained a 42-year-old man on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Athlone and Mitchells Plain Magistrate courts on the mentioned charges
