TSOLO – The Lusikisiki SAPS K9 Search and Rescue Unit recovered the bodies of two 12-year-old boys from Matyeba Locality who drowned in Mthatha Dam on Sunday, 23 February 2025 at about 14h00. The boys were among a group of children swimming when they disappeared underwater. Police were alerted, and a search operation was launched. After initial efforts by the Mthatha K9 Unit were unsuccessful due to poor visibility, the Lusikisiki K9 team resumed the search on Monday, 24 February 2025. Sergeant Makhosonke and Sergeant Nduva, both attached to K9 search and rescue members, successfully retrieved the bodies of the young victims from the deep and murky waters of the Mthatha Dam. The OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Modishana, commended the dedication of Sergeants Makhosonke and Nduva, acknowledging their tireless service to the community. “When duty calls, police officers must rise to the occasion, no matter the circumstances. The commitment displayed by these members reflects the very essence of our duty to serve and protect,” said Major General Modishana. Ends
