Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – Dedicated police members continue to eradicate the proliferation of firearms and ammunition which poses a threat to the safety of communities through the arrests of suspects found illegally in possession of such firearms and ammunition. On Sunday, 17 November 2024, members attached to Philippi East SAPS were on their way to the police station when they noticed a suspicious taxi patroller on the side of the road near the corners of Luzuko Drive and Goven Mbeki Road. The members searched the 50-year-old suspect and discovered a Webley Mark revolver with five rounds of ammunition in his possession. He was subsequently arrested and the firearm and ammunition seized. Meanwhile, on the same day, members attached to the Anti-Gang Unit followed up on information regarding a firearm which was hidden in a shack in Roodewal, Worcester. On arrival at the identified address, the members ensued with a search which led to the discovery of a P1 Walther pistol with 68 9mm rounds of ammunition. An adult male was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. Both suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Athlone and Worcester Magistrate’s courts, once charged with the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. Ends
