NORTH WEST – Dibueng Tshabang (38) and Rachel Mosito (51) appeared in the Tlhabane Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 14 February 2025, facing charges of fraud. The duo was arrested by members of the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation on Thursday, 13 February 2025, in Lethabong. Their arrest follows an investigation into allegations of defrauding Lethabong Post Office of over R600 000, 00 between 2020 and 2021, in the administering of payments to the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) beneficiaries. Investigation revealed that the accused withdrew money on several occasions from the Post Office to pay beneficiaries, and when there was extra money left, they would take it and use it for personal gain. Further probe uncovered that the pair would claim money from Post Office to replace the one used to pay beneficiaries, including the money which they have allegedly stolen. Discrepancies were reportedly noticed during an inspection, which prompted an investigation. Following an investigation, the accused were apprehended and charged with fraud. They appeared in court and were granted R3 000, 00 bail each. Their matter was postponed to 03 April 2025 for the first appearance in the Specialised Commercial Crime Court.
The North West acting Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Brigadier Silas Munzhedzi, and the Director of Public Prosecutions in North West, Dr. Rachel Makhari have welcomed the arrest and subsequent court appearance of the accused.
