Two Foreign Nationals Arrested After R1 Million Dagga Haul In Mpumalanga
Two men, aged 30 and 40, have been arrested after police seized about 180kg of dagga worth an estimated R1 million R1 Million Dagga Haul an operation on the R39 near Morgenzon, Mpumalanga.
Members of Morgenzon SAPS and the Secunda Flying Squad stopped a white Volkswagen Golf with Mpumalanga registration plates during a crime-combating operation.
A search of the vehicle uncovered 21 bags containing dagga.
The two men were arrested at the scene. Police said preliminary investigations indicated that they were foreign nationals, while the Department of Home Affairs is assisting to establish their immigration status.
The dagga was seized for further investigation, and the suspects are expected to appear in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on charges of dealing in dagga.
Police have previously recovered large quantities of dagga along the R39 between Morgenzon and Standerton. In June, two men were arrested after 97kg of dagga, worth an estimated R582,000, was discovered in a vehicle following a crash on the R39 near the Grootdraai Dam T-junction.
In April, SAPS also reported dagga seizures by Morgenzon police during operations along the route.
Under South African law, adult private cannabis use and possession have been decriminalised in limited circumstances, but dealing in cannabis remains an offence.
