Two foreign national due to appear in court for illegal possession of abalone

MPUMALANGA – Two Mozambican nationals are expected to appear before the Komatipoort Magistrates Court on Monday,  29 July

 2024, for Illegal possession of ABALONE.

Their appearance follows after information was received and followed up by police from the port of entry, regarding a white Isuzu single cab bakkie destined for the border.

The vehicle was identified and stopped and searched.

At the back of the bakkie, they found:
* Five bags of cement
* Two wood pallets
* Two aluminum window frames only.

They continued with the search, and in front behind the seat, they found eleven paper bags presented as potatoes. They opened the bags and established that they contained dry abalone. Weight of abalone is 108.15 kg with an estimated street value of R648900-00.

The two Mozambicans were arrested, charged, and detained, pending their first court appearance at Komatipoort Magistrate Court on Monday, 29 July 2024.
