DURBAN – On Sunday, 16 March 2025 and Monday, 17 March 2025 police officers attached to Operation Vala Umgodi arrested two suspects aged between 27 and 33 years for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition at Esikhaleni. The team received information of suspects who had been planning to commit an armed robbery. According to information received the suspects at the time had already hijacked a vehicle.
Police officers acted swiftly and arrested a 27-year-old suspect at Eskhaleni who was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm as well as ammunition. On the following day, Vala uMgodi members returned to Esikhaleni and arrested the second suspect aged 33, who was also found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The hijacked vehicle was recovered by Tracker at KwaDukuza policing precinct. Both suspects were charged and will appear at Esikhaleni Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 19 March 2025.
