Moloto faces additional charges as court awaits DPP direction
POLOKWANE: Popular Limpopo anti-drug activist and rehabilitation centre owner Tsebe Philemon Moloto, popularly known as “Mr Moloto”, is facing additional charges following his appearance in the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
Moloto, the Co_ founder of the Limpopo Anti-Drug, Gangsterism and Crime (LADGAC) rehabilitation centre, was initially facing two counts of malicious damage to property arising from separate incidents in Polokwane.
The State has now added further charges, including five counts of attempted murder, two counts of malicious damage to property and two further counts relating to alleged trespassing and the Toyota Hilux double cab.
This brings the number of charges listed in the latest development to nine additional counts.
The matter was postponed to 30 October 2026 to allow the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to provide a direction on which court should hear the case.
According to police and court reports, one incident involved a rehabilitation centre signboard in the Ladanna area, while another involved a Toyota Hilux which was allegedly set alight in Seshego Zone 3.
Police said the fire from the vehicle spread to a nearby house where seven people were sleeping. Neighbours managed to extinguish the flames and no injuries were reported. The estimated damage from the incidents was previously put at about R800 000.
Moloto was arrested at his Welgelegen home in Polokwane on 13 July 2026 following an investigation by the Limpopo police.
He subsequently appeared in the Seshego Magistrates’ Court before the matters were transferred to the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court for consolidation.
During his first appearance, the State did not oppose bail and Moloto was granted R50 000 bail.
Among the conditions imposed were that he report to the Polokwane police station twice a week, have no contact with the complainant or her family and not visit her home or workplace. He was also restricted from renewing his passport while the case was pending.
The organisation has also been at the centre of a dispute involving former associates, with reports indicating that the original LADGAC operation later split into separate rehabilitation initiatives.
