After a three-hour meeting in Alaska, Donald Trump announced that no agreement was reached on Ukraine with Vladimir Putin, saying, “we didn’t get there,” but insisting that progress was made.
Putin expressed that he is “sincerely interested” in ending the war, though he offered no specifics. Neither leader took questions from the press after the summit.
Trump, who often portrays himself as a skilled peacemaker, left Alaska without securing a deal. In Kyiv, there is relief that no agreement was struck without Ukraine’s involvement. Trump mentioned he plans to call Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss the talks.
