A devastating accident on the N2 between Amatigulu and Dokodweni has claimed five lives, leaving authorities searching for the missing truck driver.
The crash involved a sugar-laden truck and a light motor vehicle. Early reports indicate that the truck slammed into the smaller vehicle, forcing it off the road before overturning and crushing it beyond recognition. All five occupants of the car died instantly.
Authorities are unsure whether the truck driver is trapped beneath the wreckage or fled the scene. Investigators from the Road Traffic Inspectorate and the police accident unit are reconstructing the events, with the Road Traffic Management Corporation assisting to determine the cause.
Officials have appealed to families searching for loved ones who may have been traveling in the area to contact police.
