Media Statement LAINGSBURG – Continued efforts to stop the illegal drug trade and the trafficking thereof via the main entry and exit routes to the Western Cape yielded success when police members arrested a truck driver on the N1 in Laingsburg on Thursday, 09 May 2024 in connection with the transportation of drugs with a substantial estimated value. Information reveals that members of the Rural Flying Squad deployed in Laingsburg, in collaboration with Laingsburg SAPS, performed high-density patrols on the N1 national road when they followed their instinct to pull over a truck. The members ensued with a search of the driver and the truck upon which they found ten packets containing mandrax concealed in a box and eight boxes containing compressed dagga. The value of the drugs is estimated at about R3.54 million. The members arrested a 42-year-old man who was charged with dealing in drugs. He will appear in the Laingsburg Magistrates’ court on Monday, 13 May 2024 on mentioned charge. Western Cape police management praised the members for their commitment and vigilance in bringing the suspect to book. Ends
