After overcoming many obstacles in her life, Singer Portia Alive came out strong with a song titled “Khis Mus”(Christmas).

Real name Dr Fikile Portia Ndlovu from Escourt in the Midlands of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) but now based in based in, Massachusetts in the USA where she serves the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Portia Alive is also a talented contemporary and amapiano vocalist.
The name Portia Alive was born after she survived many obstacles in her life, that when she fefested them she came out with a song titled “Khis Mus”(Christmas).
“I believe that when life throws you lemon, you must make lemonades. It’s either you choose to be bitter or you choose to be better. It’s either you swim with the sharks or you allow the sharks to have a feast on you,” she said.
Portia Alive who is a lawyer by profession who specializes in Maritime and Logistic said that she recently released album titled Sheriff.
Sharing her journey and being based overseas balancing her Maritime Career and being an artist she siad: “The bible says to whom much is given ,much is required. I was lucky enough to grow in a solid family background. I was a churchgoer growing up which made me who I am today. I have always been in the choir and from church and at school.
“I think it was a blessing in disguise that we were barred from doing music in the private schools that led me to focus on my career until I was settled in the USA and decided ti follow my musical calling. I’m a lawyer by profession and I specializes in everything related to Maritime space,” she said.
She said that her plans were to settle in Europe before moving to the USA.
“What happened is that I reached a level where I wanted to challenge myself and go work in the developing world. USA was my target so that is how I ended up here. At first I wanted to go to Europe but when Americans offered me a working visa, I took it and never looked back. It was easy to settle because of our human rights are a bit similar,” she said.
She said that Amapiano music are currently dominating Europe and USA.
“Doing Amapiano is amazing. When I first heard about it, I was amazed. There are specialist lounges and bars where they do alternatives. Cape Chord is the place , they experiment music, they play most of the South African music from all over Africa. People are receptive and they love African music. Amapiano music is another genre that they are crazy about and having the advantage of sharing information about it formation and the artists behind it is cool,” she said.
One of Portia Alive well recieved song is called “Khis Mus”(Christmas).
“Khis Mus came up in a spiritual way to me. I wrote down the lyrics and the song was soley from the emotions that I was homesick and at the same time I couldn’t go home and be with my family. Khis Mus was song born out of missing people back at home,” she said.
