GAUTENG – Three suspects Siphiwe Dlamini (25), Musa Mutungwa (29) and Owethu Khumalo (20) appeared before the Germiston Magistrate Court on Monday, 02 September 2024 for the murder of an off duty police officer Sergeant Sekiti (40). Sergeant Enos Sekiti was attached to the Rapid Rail Police Unit (RRPU) in Germiston was killed on 18 August 2024. It is alleged that the deceased was using his private vehicle, a Suzuki Swift to offer e-hailing services in the early hours of 18 August 2024. The deceased received a request from a client, upon arrival at the pick-up point outside JJ Tarven in Germiston he found three men. It is alleged that the deceased indicated that he would be unable to transport all three passengers at once, however the three suspects negotiated with the deceased and offered to pay extra. While travelling along Victoria road one suspect noticed Sekiti’s service pistol and alerted the others that the deceased was armed. It is further alleged that two of the suspects took out their firearms and pointed at the deceased. He got out of the vehicle while it was still in motion and the suspects chased and shot at him. He succumbed to his injuries on the spot. The suspects then searched him and took his cell phones as well as his firearm before they brazenly walked away. The three were arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation on Saturday, 31 August 2024, after information was received that they were detained by Germiston SAPS on a separate case that also took place around Germiston. The trio made their first appearance before the Germiston Magistrate Court on Monday, 02 September 2024 and the matter is postponed to 09 September 2024 pending further investigation. The Gauteng Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Major General Ebrahim Kadwa has lauded the investigating team for their tireless efforts in ensuring that the suspected murderers are brought to book.
