Media Statement NELSPRUIT – Three suspects, aged between 20 and 36, were arrested on Sunday, 06 April 2025 by members from the Proactive team, deployed for Operation Vala Umgodi in Mpumalanga. The team was conducting patrol duties from Barberton R38 Road towards Low’s Creek when they noticed three males walking. Each of the men was carrying a bag and it was during this time when the astute members stopped and searched them and discovered gold bearing material inside their bags. The suspects were charged for possession of gold bearing material and are expected to appear at the Barberton Magistrate’s court on Monday, 07 April 2025, facing the said charges. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr.) Zeph Mkhwanazi has welcomed the exceptional work done by the dedicated members assigned for Operation Vala Umgodi as they soldier on thereby bringing good results.
