THREE LIMPOPO POLICE OFFICERS ARRESTED OVER THEFT, CORRUPTION ALLEGATIONS
POLOKWANE: Three South African Police Service (SAPS) members, including a female officer, have been arrested in Limpopo following separate investigations into allegations of theft and corruption.
The three officers were arrested on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, by the SAPS Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit, assisted by the Polokwane Tactical Response Team.
In the first case, a 46-year-old male police officer is facing two counts of theft after allegedly taking a complainant’s bank card while the complainant was in police custody.
The case was registered at Burgersfort SAPS in December 2023.
According to the investigation, two withdrawals amounting to R9,000 were subsequently made from the complainant’s bank account.
The matter was referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions, who directed that the police official be charged with two counts of theft.
A J50 warrant of arrest was issued, leading to his arrest on Wednesday.
He is expected to appear before the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 8 October 2026.
In a separate case, two police officers, aged 33 and 47, have been arrested over allegations that they solicited and received a R1,000 bribe from a foreign national.
The incident allegedly occurred after police attended to a complaint involving a suspected counterfeit R200 banknote.
The officers allegedly took the complainant to his residence and demanded R1,000 in exchange for not arresting him for allegedly being illegally in the country.
The complainant allegedly handed over the money, after which he was released.
The matter was reported at Ohrigstad SAPS in August 2026 and was investigated by the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit before being referred to the Control Prosecutor for a decision.
J50 warrants were subsequently issued against both officers, resulting in their arrest on Wednesday.
They are also expected to appear in the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Petrus Scheepers welcomed the arrests and commended the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit for its investigations.
Scheepers warned that SAPS members are expected to uphold the law and maintain the highest standards of integrity, professionalism and accountability.
“The SAPS in Limpopo will continue to take decisive action against members who are alleged to abuse their positions of authority for personal gain,” said Scheepers.
Members of the public have been urged to report allegations of corruption, theft and other forms of misconduct involving police officials through the appropriate SAPS reporting channels.
Police investigations into the matters are continuing.
