Three Granted Bail in R1.3 Million Bojanala Municipality Fraud Case

RUSTENBURG, 22 September 2026 — Three people accused of defrauding the Bojanala Platinum District Municipality of more than R1.3 million have been granted bail of R1,000 each.

Vincent Mkhwanazi, 38, Sibusiso Kunene, 44, and Thembeka Zukula, 44, appeared in the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday. They face charges of fraud, money laundering and theft.

According to the Hawks, an audit at the municipality identified transfers from its bank account that allegedly had no authorisation or supporting documents. The municipality reportedly suffered a loss of more than R1.3 million.

The matter was referred to the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation unit. Following an investigation, the three accused were arrested on Sunday, 20 September 2026.

The case was postponed to 30 November 2026 for the arrest of additional accused, the Hawks said.
