FREE STATE – The Ficksburg police have swiftly arrested three suspects at Meqheleng Zone 8 near Ficksburg following concerned community members who noticed them transporting a firearm with a wheelbarrow. On 6 February 2025 at about 02:45, the Ficksburg Crime Prevention was patrolling notorious Zone 8 of Meqheleng conducting stop and searches. They met a group of community members who tipped them off about certain people terrorizing the community, pushing a wheelbarrow with a firearm inside. The police reacted to the information and followed it up. They picked up three suspects and found the said silver shotgun with a bullet hidden underneath the bed wrapped with a black jacket. Its serial numbers are visible, and it will be handed over for ballistic analysis to determine the lawful owner. The two suspects arrested are undocumented and the other one is local.
The three suspects are expected to appear before the Ficksburg Magistrate Court on Friday, 7 February 2025, facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, possession of a dangerous weapon and for being illegal immigrants.
