Media Statement FREE STATE – On 9 December 2024, Matlakala Amelia Lesabane (48), Obakeng Sobbrey Teele (38) and the company Teebros PTY LTD appeared before the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court on allegations of fraud, forgery and uttering. The court appearance follows after the two handed themselves over to Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation in Bloemfontein in the morning of the same day. It is alleged that in June 2022, the Hawks received a tip-off about allegations of fraud and corruption committed by the Supply Chain practitioner at the Free State Department of Health, where a tender for supply and delivery of laundry chemicals, installation, maintenance of automatic dosing pump system to various laundries in the Free State, was advertised. Lesabane, who was the Supply Chain practitioner at the time, demanded a gratification amount of R150 000.00 for three separate tenders from the complainant who bidded and was awarded the tender. On refusing to pay the demanded amount, the tender was awarded to Teele’s company. Lesabane ordered the complainant to bring the confirmation letter for supplying of dosing pumps. The matter was reported to the Department of Health authorities and an internal investigation was conducted. It was discovered that Lesabane awarded the same tender and gave a similar LKW confirmation letter to Teebos PTY LTD owned by Teele. The LKW director confirmed that the confirmation letter was allegedly fraudulent, stating that Teele’s company was never their client and the signature endorsed on the letter does not belong to LKW. The matter was referred to the Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation in Bloemfontein for further investigation that led to issuing of warrants of arrest by the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court. During their court appearance, Lesabane was released on R2000 bail, whereas Teele was also released on R3000 bail. Their matter is remanded to 12 February 2024 for transfer to the Bloemfontein Regional Court. Ends
