Media Statement POLOKWANE – The escapee, Fhimani Azwinndini (28) was admitted at Tshilidzini hospital when he allegedly escaped from lawful custody through the window on the 14 January 2025 at about 22:24. Azwinndini was facing charges of Kidnapping and Murder. The case of escape from lawful custody was registered and the manhunt was launched. While the investigation team was working around the clock, to follow every leads received from the residents. On Saturday, 18 January 2025 at about 13:30, the residents of Ha Mphego village informed the SAPS that the escapee has been found and the residents have already assaulted him severely. A case of attempted murder had to be registered as Fhimani Azwinndini could not speak as a result of the serious injuries he sustained and was admitted again under police guard. He will appear in the local magistrate court soon.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe applauded residents for assisting the police to trace the escapee but cautioned them against taking the law into their hands since it is punishable by law.
