Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – A 56-year-old male has been arrested this morning, 04 march 2025. This comes after the Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB) team based in Bellville assisted by the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) have on 12 February 2025, discovered a clandestine laboratory in Paarl where steroids are illegally manufactured. The suspect is to make his first appearance this morning in the Paarl Magistrate’s Court. It is reported that on 12 February 2025 a premises was identified and it was fully operational. Search and seizure operation was authorised and conducted. During the search, pressing, sorting and labelling machines, scales and ovens were discovered. Moreover, powder and suspected schedule 4 medicines were also discovered. The value of the steroids is yet to be determined. Two suspects were arrested separately on this matter, Jade Claire Sowter and Raynard Stander. Both suspects aged 27 have appeared at the Paarl Magistrates’ Court on 14 February 2024 and they were both released on R15 000 bail each. The matter against the duo is remanded to 16 May 2025. The Provincial Head, Major General Makgato applauded the team for the job well done. Ends
